Conclude with two days in Havana, where we will absorb the culture and traditions of this colorful city and meet with the people who help shape the economy. WESTERLY WINDS OF MOROCCO: TENERIFE TO LISBON ABOARD SEA SPIRIT (CRUISE)

Embark on an exciting new voyage from the Atlantic coast of Africa in the Canary Islands, an autonomous region of Spain, to the Portuguese capital of Lisbon. Encounter the legacy of medieval Moorish culture on both sides of the Strait of Gibraltar, and experience the vibrant contemporary cultures of Morocco and southern Iberia. In the Canaries, discover UNESCO-listed historic towns and lush gardens, then spend a day on Portuguese-accented Madeira. Cruise east to Morocco to explore Casablanca and Rabat, and overnight in Fes for visits to Meknes and the Roman ruins of Volubilis. Continue to the British territory of Gibraltar, to ascend its legendary rock and see its famous tailless monkeys. In Spain, step ashore in Cádiz for an excursion to Seville or Córdoba. Pause in Faro, Portugal, before concluding in Lisbon, where we dock overnight. Our ship, the M.V. Sea Spirit, is an intimate expedition vessel that underwent a complete refurbishment in 2017.
GREECE & THE EUROPEAN UNION (LAND)

Immerse yourself in the history, culture and contemporary politics of Greece, birthplace of democracy and philosophy, with a special emphasis on the economic implications of membership in the European Union. In Athens, examine the role played by major corporations, meet with bank and local government officials and sit in on a journalists' panel to discuss current affairs. We will be received at the U.S. embassy (pending confirmation) for a private reception, and no visit to Greece would be complete without visiting the Acropolis and Parthenon.
BELGIUM & HOLLAND BY BARGE: ABOARD MAGNIFIQUE III (CRUISE)

Experience the history, art and culture of Belgium and the Netherlands during a one-week cruise aboard a brand-new river barge. Begin in Bruges with a look at some of the city’s hidden artistic gems. Stop in Ghent, one of the largest and wealthiest cities in medieval Europe. In Dendermonde, admire the former Cloth Hall on the Market Square or tour a local brewery. Step ashore in Antwerp to visit the 17th-century Rubens House. In Holland, where peace and prosperity reigned during the Golden Age of the 17th century, call at Vianen to see the “silver city” of Schoonhoven. Discover picturesque Kinderdijk, a village famous for its UNESCO-listed row of 19 large windmills, or sample local cheeses and sweet stroopwafels in Gouda. In Amsterdam, whose elaborate canal system is lined with the historic homes of wealthy merchants, see the splendid masterpieces of the Rijksmuseum. During optional daily bike tours (averaging two to three hours of easy cycling on flat terrain), pedal along scenic canal-side paths, stopping to explore medieval villages, windmills and farmland. Non-bikers may take guided walking tours to enjoy a variety of fascinating historic and cultural sites.

Meet with government officials and sit in on a Newsweek journalists' panel to examine the welfare state and education systems and the impact both have on these countries' infrastructure and local economies.
NORMANDY TO PARIS: COMMEMORATING THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF D-DAY ABOARD AMALYRA (CRUISE)

June 2019 marks the 75th anniversary of D-Day landings by Allied forces as part of World War II’s Operation Overlord. On this specially timed program, arrive in France on D-Day, June 6, and visit Sword Beach to observe the anniversary. Sail along the coast, visiting venerable towns while marveling at the natural beauty, azure seas and diverse history that characterize this region. Explore the Inverewe Gardens, a subtropical oasis, and call at Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands to discover a series of remarkable Stone Age sites, including Skara Brae. From Inverness, tour Cawdor Castle before sailing to Aberdeen to admire nearby Crathes Castle. Visit the Killing Fields, a reminder of the Khmer Rouge regime that eliminated approximately a quarter of the country’s population. A panel of journalists will discuss working in a country where the Civil War is still considered a taboo subject. Meet with diplomats who can discuss the current regime under Prime Minister Hun Sen, himself a former Khmer Rouge officer and focus of corruption allegations. Conclude the program in Siem Reap, where political woes are overshadowed by the magnificent architectural accomplishments of the Angkorian period. Explore the temple complexes tucked away in enticing jungles.
